What is CYNAP?

CYNAP (Cyprus National Access Point) is a portal that provides real-time and static data related to the road network of Cyprus. The data is sourced by authorities and other providers responsible for producing and maintaining it. For more information, click here.

Do other countries have National Access Points?

Yes, in order to advance towards a Single European Transport Area, thirty European countries are establishing National Access Points (NAP) that adhere to open and common standards. The European NAP ecosystem aims in facilitating access, easy exchange and reuse of transport related data.

What is the ITS Directive 2010/40/EU?

Directive 2010/40/EU, also known as the ITS Directive, establishes a framework for the implementation of common standards and specifications within the European Union (EU) for developing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in the field of road transport.

What datasets are available at CYNAP?

The CYNAP offers a number of static data related to the road network of Cyprus as well as real-time data captured by Intelligent Transport Systems installed along the network.

Is the list of available datasets complete?

No, additional datasets will be published as they become available from the organizations that own them.

Do I need to log in to view or use the available datasets?

Yes, to gain full access and use the available resources you need to be logged in.

How can I register?

To create your free CyNAP account follow these steps:

  • Click on LOGIN

  • In the Login screen, click Registration

  • Fill in the required information

  • Click Submit

You will then receive a confirmation email at the email address you provided. Click Complete Registration in the email to finish the process.

How can an authority provide data for CYNAP?

If you are a data provider that produces or manages road transport-related data and you require assistance in uploading a new dataset, please contact us at cynap@pwd.mcw.gov.cy to receive assistance with uploading the data to CyNAP.

What is DATEX II

DATEX II is the standard electronic language used in Europe for traffic information and mobility data exchange. It is:

  • Interoperable

  • Language-independent

  • Machine-readable

DATEX II data can be transformed into spoken text, images, maps, or navigation calculations based on end-user requirements. It is widely used in CYNAP datasets and is a core data standard regulated by European Delegated Regulations on ITS data.

How often is the data updated on CYNAP?

Data is updated at varying intervals depending on the type of dataset. Real-time data is updated frequently, while static data may be updated periodically. Please check the metadata of each dataset for specific update frequencies.

How can I find specific datasets on CYNAP?

You can search for datasets using the search bar on the portal or navigate through categories available in the portal's data section. Each dataset is also tagged with relevant keywords to help you find the information you need.

Are there any restrictions on using CYNAP data?

Yes, the use of data is governed by the license type associated with each dataset. It is important to review the terms and conditions for each dataset to ensure compliance with any restrictions.
